Kathy Kuo Home Trade Member Spotlight: King Interior Designs

Hi cuties! Hard to believe it’s already November and that the holiday season is right around the corner. To kick off the new month, I am thrilled to present our latest Kathy Kuo Home Trade Member spotlight: Katy Brosious, the founder and principal designer at King Interior Designs!

King Interior Designs is based in Augusta, Georgia, though they take on clients nationwide through their e-design service offerings. Katherine herself is a self-taught designer (major props!) who has built her company around the belief that “beautiful designs and superior quality should be accessible and attainable no matter what the budget and that anyone can achieve their dream home.” She loves to work with color, texture, and plenty of pattern, and when she’s not dreaming up beautiful designs, you can find her hanging with her family and cooking up something delicious in the kitchen.

Read on to learn more about King Interior Designs and how Katy approaches the design business and where she finds inspiration!

Tell our readers about your business—what are your specialities and core offerings?

King Interior Designs is a budget-friendly, residential and commercial interior design studio. I built my company with the belief that beautiful designs and superior quality should be accessible and attainable no matter what the budget and that anyone can achieve their dream home.

“King Interior Designs is known for our fun patterns and mixed textures that create a space that is inviting, attractive, and beautifully curated.”

With an innate ability to connect with any client, Katy’s collaborative design process allows her to produce superior results which reflect her clients’ unique tastes and lifestyles.

Do you have a favorite interior design style to work with on projects?

While King Interior Designs does not focus on one particular design style, if you know us, you know we love color. We enjoy a Southern Coastal style. Our inspiration comes from Downtown Charleston, South Carolina, and we love combining old with new.

How would you describe the style of your own home? What’s your favorite piece of furniture that you own?

My favorite piece is my black china cabinet, which was the first piece my husband and I sourced for our home. It is such a statement piece and is the main focus in our open-concept home. More specifically, what is inside the cabinet are some of our favorite pieces. Including our wedding day champagne bottle & flutes, heirloom china, and pieces we have collected throughout the years.

Are there any design trends you see on the horizon this season?

A trend that I am seeing is the blending of antique pieces with modern elements. It’s all about creating balance and harmony between the two.  A home should be a collection of things you love and find meaningful. If it doesn’t speak to your soul, it shouldn’t have a place in your home.

What advice would you give someone who wants to work with an interior designer on their home, but they feel intimidated or hesitant? For someone who’s never worked with a designer, what’s the major upside?

Our job as designers is to create the perfect space for you. We want your home to reflect your personality, stand the test of time, and elevate your overall lifestyle. I share with my clients all the time that I am trained to guide my clients toward which pieces are worth investing in and I can envision the space before the first piece of furniture is even placed.

“We understand that our services are an investment and we do not take that lightly. Our goal is to meet your needs and exceed your expectations.”

Then the biggest advise to follow that—if you get through those questions and answers and hire the designer, then trust us. You hired us for a reason, let us do our thing—it will go much smoother and the product turn out much more cohesively.

Where do you draw the most inspiration from as a designer?

My favorite part about traveling is finding the swankiest hotels to stay in. The design of the hotel contributes to the overall experience of your visit and I love surrounding myself with beautiful and eclectic styles and gaining inspiration along the way.
