3 Ideas for Entryways: How To Decorate Your Foyer

Ah, in search of ideas for entryways? Also known as the foyer, we often find that the entryway is the hardest spot in the home to decorate. For starters, an entryway can easily become the catch-all space for all those things that don’t have a spot of their own: keys, winter boots, newspapers and the day’s mail, hats, scarves, sunglasses…the list goes on and on. A good foyer, though, can be a real design stunner, and so it should be.

Read on for some of our favorite ideas for entryways–as well as Kathy Kuo Home product picks to make your entryway dreams a reality!

Ideas for Entryways: Get the Essentials

After all, the entryway is often the first glimpse visitors get of your home. As the first thing they see, you want to make sure you’re making an impression, and a good one at that. Everyday necessities aside, we believe all good ideas for entryways should contain the following:

A console table: Every home needs a bit of counter space in the foyer. You’ve got to have somewhere to put everything.

Storage: We’re partial to woven baskets. They’re a great way to store those extra scarves, magazines, hats, gloves, etc.

Mirror: Why do you need a mirror in the entryway? To check your hair and makeup on your way out the door, of course. Your entryway mirror provides the first and last look at your outfit each and every day. It’s the best way to make sure there’s no lipstick on your teeth, that your hair is properly brushed, and that you haven’t forgotten your glasses.

Lighting: A pair of lamps flanking the console table aren’t just a stylish solution, they’re also a great way to add light to the space. By virtue of being by the front door, entryways sometimes lack natural light. A pair of table lamps helps to brighten up the space.

Seating: If you’ve got the space for it, it’s great to have a stool or two underneath the console table in your entryway. These serve as a great place to put on your shoes in the morning, and can also be pulled into the neighboring areas (living and dining rooms) for extra seating when guests come over.
